Instagram follower to following ratio checker
On Ganicly's scale, an Instagram follower to following ratio of 2:1 is healthy, 5:1 is strong, and 10:1 is authority.
Grow this number a little every day.
Promote your public Instagram profile to your chosen audience. Growth follows a daily limit that increases with your account size, so a small account cannot receive a large plan's full range.

What the number means
Your follower to following ratio is your follower count divided by the number of accounts you follow. A result of 2:1 means two followers for every account followed. This Instagram checker calculates the ratio from your public username, displays one decimal place, and shows your grade.
You also get the number of unfollows needed to reach the next grade at your current follower count. Use that target when deciding whether to tidy your following list or build your audience while keeping useful connections.
How it works
- 1
Enter the Instagram username of the public profile you want to check.
- 2
The tool checks the public follower and following counts. An existing result can be reused for up to 6 hours.
- 3
See your ratio to one decimal place, its grade, and how many unfollows would reach the next band.
How to calculate your follower to following ratio
Follower to following ratio = followers ÷ following. Put followers first: a result of 5.0 means five followers for every account followed, written as 5:1. Dividing following by followers instead gives the following to follower ratio, which answers the opposite question.
These sample accounts show why both counts matter. The checker does the division for you and displays one decimal place. To inspect followers, following, and post count together, use the Instagram follower count checker, which also shows when the counts were checked.
| Followers | Following | Calculation | Ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5,000 | 1,000 | 5,000 ÷ 1,000 | 5.0:1 |
| 800 | 1,000 | 800 ÷ 1,000 | 0.8:1 |
| Ratio | Grade | What the counts show |
|---|---|---|
| Under 1:1 | Low | More accounts followed than followers |
| 1:1 to below 2:1 | Even | Followers equal or exceed following |
| 2:1 to below 5:1 | Healthy | At least two followers per account followed |
| 5:1 to below 10:1 | Strong | At least five followers per account followed |
| 10:1 or higher | Authority | At least ten followers per account followed |
What is a good follower to following ratio on Instagram?
Ganicly grades the ratio in five bands, from low to authority. Each threshold describes how many followers you have per account followed. Find your band below, then look at the next threshold to understand what would change your grade. These are Ganicly's labels, not an Instagram benchmark.
Having more followers than following can signal popularity. For a profile review, check audience response separately: the audience quality checker compares median public post engagement with the benchmark for the account's size.
Why can I only follow 7,500 accounts on Instagram?
Instagram caps the total following list at 7,500 accounts across personal, business, and creator profiles. It also applies follow-action restrictions, so a restriction can occur before you reach that total. The total cap and an action restriction are different issues.
Start with your following count, not your ratio grade. If you are at the total cap, make room in your following list before trying to add another account. If your count is below it, open the notice in Instagram and check what it says. The calculator shows the counts; your account notice is where to check the restriction.
How to improve your ratio without mass unfollowing
Improve the ratio by increasing followers, reducing following, or both. Start with a list review based on what you want to see in your feed, rather than deleting connections to reach a grade.
To build the follower side while keeping your connections, Instagram plans promote your public profile at a steady daily pace. Ganicly delivers real followers from its own audience base, matched to your niche, countries, and selected accounts using its AI technology.
- Open your Following list and review each account's current relevance to you.
- Keep customers, peers, friends, and creators whose posts you still want to see.
- Remove accounts you no longer want to follow. Use the next-grade target as a reference, while keeping useful connections.

What's a good follower to following ratio?
A ratio of 2:1 starts Ganicly's healthy band. It means you have two followers for every account you follow. The next grades are strong at 5:1 and authority at 10:1. Use the grade to describe the balance between your audience and your following list.
Why can I only follow 7,500 accounts on Instagram?
The limit concerns the 7,500 accounts you follow, not the number of followers you can have. This total cap applies to personal, business, and creator accounts. At the cap, you need to remove accounts from your following list before adding others.
Why is Instagram letting me follow more than 7500?
This checker cannot explain why a public following count appears above 7,500. It reports the available public counts and calculates their ratio. For an account-specific explanation, check the notices in your Instagram account rather than treating a high following count as proof that the limit has changed.
How to fix following limit on Instagram?
If you have reached the 7,500-account total cap, review your following list to make room. Keep accounts you still want to follow and remove those that no longer interest you. If your total is below the cap, check the account notice: Instagram also applies separate follow-action restrictions.
How long will Instagram limit my following?
Check the notice in your Instagram account for instructions about your follow restriction. This tool calculates your ratio from public follower and following counts. Open the account notice to review the restriction, then use the calculator separately to check the balance between your audience and the accounts you follow.
How many followers on Instagram do you need to earn a monthly income?
This calculator measures audience balance rather than monthly earnings. It divides followers by following and gives you a grade, plus a target for the next grade. Use those figures to review your profile's follower to following ratio and keep any income assessment separate from this calculation.
Should I mass-unfollow to improve my ratio?
You do not need to mass-unfollow to improve the ratio. Increasing followers also raises it while leaving your following list intact. Review accounts individually based on whether you still want their content in your feed. The tool's unfollow figure is the arithmetic needed for the next grade, not a list of accounts to remove.
Does it need my Instagram password?
No, the checker works from your public Instagram username without a login. It uses public profile data to calculate followers divided by following. Ganicly never asks for your Instagram password or acts inside your account, so you remain responsible for any changes to your following list.
