What the number means
This free TikTok engagement rate calculator measures likes and comments against video views, then compares the result with the median for your follower tier. Enter a public username to get the engagement percentage plus average likes and comments from up to 24 recent posts.
The calculation is weighted by views, so videos with more views contribute more to the result. It uses the view-based method when at least 3 posts have view counts; otherwise, it calculates average likes and comments per follower.
How it works
- 1
Enter the TikTok username or paste the public profile link.
- 2
The calculator checks the public profile and up to 24 recent posts.
- 3
See your rate, size benchmark, average likes and comments, and check time, with fresh or cached data identified.
How to calculate engagement rate on TikTok
The per-view formula is: (total likes + total comments) ÷ total video views × 100. Add the counts across the videos with view data before dividing. This gives the result its view weighting: a video with more views contributes more to the account's rate.
For a manual check, open the recent videos and record each video's likes, comments and views. Add each column, then apply the formula. Do not average the individual video percentages; that gives a lightly viewed post the same influence as a heavily viewed one. The worked example below shows the difference.
| Followers | Median engagement rate | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Under 10,000 | Likes + comments per view | |
| 10,000 to 50,000 | Likes + comments per view | |
| 50,000 to 1 million | Likes + comments per view | |
| 1 million or more | Likes + comments per view |
What is a good engagement rate on TikTok?
Use the median for your follower tier as the reference. The TikTok rates below are based on 2025 content. These are likes plus comments per view, not per follower.
Ganicly compares your rate with the relevant row. A result at least 1.2 times the median is labeled above. From 0.5 times the median up to that threshold, it is normal. Lower results are below for accounts under 1 million followers and under for accounts with 1 million or more.
Why TikTok and Instagram rates differ
TikTok and Instagram percentages answer different questions in Ganicly's calculators. TikTok measures likes and comments relative to views. Instagram measures average likes and comments relative to followers. The denominator changes what the percentage describes, even when the interaction counts stay unchanged.
For a sample whose average views exceed its follower count, the follower-based rate is higher than the view-based rate. That increase comes from the denominator, not from additional likes or comments. A higher TikTok percentage therefore does not establish that its content performs better than an Instagram account's content.
Do shares and saves count toward this rate?
This calculator counts public likes and comments, with views as the denominator. Shares and saves are not included. The result shows average likes and comments alongside the rate, so you can see whether the sample draws mainly likes or also starts conversations.
To inspect that mix, calculate like rate and comment rate separately: likes ÷ views × 100, then comments ÷ views × 100. Compare those figures for a stronger and weaker video. Use the average likes tool when you want average likes and comments at the center of the result.
How to raise your TikTok engagement rate
Choose your next edit from an observable gap. Start with views per video, then separate likes from comments. A video with plenty of views but little response calls for a different test than one that attracts likes but few comments.
Views without much response:
pause on the opening frame. Replace a vague introduction with the result, question or problem the video addresses.
Likes without comments:
ask a specific question about the demonstration, choice or experience shown in the video.
Repeated questions in comments:
film the answer and put the original question on screen.
A stronger comment rate:
inspect the prompt and topic on that video. Test one of those elements in your next post, then calculate its comment rate.
Can pinned videos distort your engagement rate?
Pinned posts remain in this calculator's engagement sample. A pinned video with many views can carry a large share of the weighted result. Check its likes, comments and views before deciding that the account-wide percentage describes the rest of your recent content.
For a manual comparison, calculate the rate with the pinned video included, then calculate it again without that video's counts. Inspect the strongest and weakest posts in the free scan to find the posts behind the aggregate. The scan and this calculator use the same public profile data, reused for up to 6 hours.

How to calculate engagement rate on TikTok?
Divide total likes plus total comments by total video views, then multiply by 100. Add the counts across your video sample before dividing. This produces a view-weighted rate, rather than giving every video equal influence. For a follower-based calculation, divide average likes plus average comments by followers and multiply by 100.
Is 10% engagement rate on TikTok good?
Yes, 10% per view is above every follower-tier benchmark; all TikTok medians sit below 10%. A 10% per-view result also clears Ganicly's above-benchmark threshold in every tier. A 10% rate per follower is a different measure and has no matching benchmark here.
What is the average engagement rate on TikTok?
The reference is a median per-view rate: 8.1% under 10,000 followers, 8.0% from 10,000 to 50,000, 7.4% from 50,000 to 1 million, and 7.6% for 1 million or more. These figures count likes plus comments relative to views.
Is 2.5% good?
At 2.5% per view, the rate is below every size benchmark. A rate of 2.5% per follower is a different measure, so these per-view benchmarks do not judge it. Ganicly labels that per-view result below for accounts under 1 million followers and under for accounts with 1 million or more.
Why per view and not per follower?
Per view relates likes and comments to video plays; per follower relates average likes and comments to the profile's follower count. Ganicly uses views when at least 3 posts have view counts and otherwise falls back to followers. The benchmark table on this page applies to the view-based method.
Does this TikTok engagement rate calculator include shares and saves?
No, this calculator does not include shares or saves. It uses public likes, comments and views, and also displays average likes and comments. That gives you a defined measure you can reproduce from the public counts without needing access to the account's private analytics.
Can I calculate engagement rate for a private TikTok profile?
No, the calculator cannot calculate post-based engagement when the videos are private. A private profile provides profile counts only, so the engagement fields remain empty. To get a rate, the tool needs public posts with likes and comments, plus views for the view-based calculation.
Does it need my TikTok password?
No, the calculator works from a public TikTok username without a password or login. It checks public profile and post data and never acts inside your account. Each check returns one result with its check time, rather than a history of your previous results.
